What are practitioners learning as they implement the Common Core State Standards with real children and real teachers in real schools? What’s working? What isn’t working? What lessons are teachers taking away from this important work? How are practitioners overcoming hurdles to implementation?

Kappan’s Common Core Writing Project is designed to be an exchange of ideas about Common Core implementation and to provide opportunities for teachers to learn more about their practice. We invite teachers and those who support them to share stories about practical applications and lesson plans as well as stories about the challenges that classroom teachers and others face during implementation.

All of the articles published on this site will be available to the public, thanks to a Get it Right grant from the Learning First Alliance.

We are considering manuscripts about the Common Core for publication in Kappan magazine and on this web site. Some articles will be published here before being published in the magazine; due to limited space in the magazine, others will be published only online.

Submit a manuscript to us at manuscripts@pdkintl.org. Please put “Kappan Common Core” in the subject field. Guidelines for writers are available at http://pdkintl.org/publications/submissions.
